It started with
one question:
why am I the
way I am?

That question led me here. To this work. To you.

I'm Shobana, LMHC (WA) · LPC (CO & WY) — a trauma-informed therapist working with adults and couples across Washington, Colorado, and Wyoming.

My Story

Shobana Murugiah, Second Sun Therapy

Somewhere along the way,
it became something much bigger.

I became deeply curious about how profoundly we are shaped. By our childhoods and our cultures. By systems of power, privilege, and race. By the worlds we were born into and the ones we had to learn to navigate.

I believe we are born worthy. And yet, through the systems we survived and the coping we had to master, we learned to forget that.

Therapy, to me, is the process of remembering.

To sit with someone in their most tender moments, their pain, their confusion, their joy, and to be trusted with all of it? That is a privilege I hold with everything I have.

I hold culture and identity as central, not an afterthought. My own experience as an immigrant and woman of color shapes how I show up — with humility, curiosity, and deep respect for the fullness of who you are.
Therapy isn't something I do to you.
It's something we build together.
Outside the Office

There's a whole person
on this side of the screen.

The therapeutic relationship works best when there's some real humanity in it. So here's a little of what makes me, me.

Because you deserve to know who you're trusting with the tender stuff.

A few things about me
  • Latte in one hand, emotional support Kindle in the other
  • Hozier on rotation, year-round, no apologies
  • A mom, learning that balance is a myth and grace is everything
  • Rotating cast of hobbies, permanent collection of trinkets
  • Quiet mornings are sacred to me
  • Soaking up the gorgeous PNW, clouds and all
  • Committed to my own therapy and ongoing growth

Grounded in skill.
Led by heart.

I nerd out on attachment theory and trauma research. But what drives me is seeing you as a whole person, not a diagnosis or a problem to be solved. I bring practical tools, psychoeducation, and a whole lot of curiosity about what actually works for you.
